The New York Choreographic Institute was founded in the Spring of 2000 by Irene Diamond and Peter Martins. The Institute promotes the development of choreographers and dancers involved in classical choreography by providing opportunities to develop their talents.
The Institute advances its mission through four programmatic initiatives:
Candidates are chosen on the basis of their experience and potential. They are provided dancers, time and studio space.
Awarded yearly to support an emerging choreographer currently affiliated with the applying ballet company.
Symposia and round-table discussions on choreography, music, lighting, costume and scenic design.
Choreographic Residency
A selected choreographer spends a period of time exploring choreography, design, visual art, music, production, and collaboration.
The New York Choreographic Institute is an affiliate of New York City Ballet.
