This program provides an intimate look at a variety of Balanchine’s classical ballets: his one-act version of Swan Lake breathes new passion and heartbreak into a familiar tale; Allegro Brillante is an exuberant, thirteen-minute whirlwind of choreography; and Tschaikovsky Suite No. 3 begins solemnly and swells with each movement, finishing with a grand finale full of tutus and tiaras. Also included is Balanchine's Garland Dance from the full-length The Sleeping Beauty, the first ballet Balanchine performed in as a child.
