Meet the Dancer

Experience ballet from the other side of the footlights

A NYCB dancer will escort your group, sharing insights into the life of a dancer and answering questions about the performance your group is attending. He or she will also share interesting moments from the history of both NYCB and our home, the David H. Koch Theater (formerly the New York State Theater). There may also be the opportunity to view the breathtaking auditorium from onstage.

Meet the Musician

See the music and hear the dance from a musician’s perspective

Join a member of the NYCB Orchestra before the performance for a discussion of music’s integral contribution to the beauty of a ballet performance. Then, enjoy a first row view of the orchestra pit and the splendor of the Theater.

Dress Makes the Dance

Behind-the-scenes glimpse into NYCB’s costume shop

Take an exciting look at some of New York City Ballet’s exquisite and intricately-detailed costumes, and see how they’re made. You’ll tour various locations where costumes are stored and readied for use in performances, while gaining insights on costume design, creation, and maintenance.

Ballet Experience

Private class with a NYCB dancer

In this once-in-a-lifetime experience, young dance students (ages 14 and older with prior ballet experience) have the opportunity to take a thrilling, private, hour-long class taught by a NYCB dancer. There’s no better way to learn ballet than from the professionals themselves! A few non-participating group members may observe at no additional cost.

Dance Clinic

Personalized class and coaching session with a NYCB dancer

Performance groups — from dance studios to show choirs — are invited inside the rehearsal studios to work on movement aspects of their performance. A NYCB Company member will lead attendees through an introductory ballet barre before observing the group’s routine and providing direction on how to enhance their performance. Non-participating group members may observe for a minimal fee.
