The 2014 Spring Gala on May 8, celebrated the 50th anniversary of both New York City Ballet's residence at Lincoln Center and the creation of the David H. Koch Theater (formerly the New York State Theater).
This one-night-only gala performance paid tribute to the Company's extraordinary history and toasted its bright future with choreographic innovation and creativity. The program featured works from the Theater's opening night in 1964, including an excerpt from Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel performed by singer-actress Kristen Bell and Broadway’s Aaron Lazar. Another special highlight was an onstage salute to the leading dancers of 1964 who were a part of that memorable opening night program. The performance closed with an acclaimed world premiere by choreographer and NYCB soloist Justin Peck to a commissioned score by the American singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens.
The 2014 Spring Gala was generously sponsored by Vacheron Constantin.
