Join us for our fifth annual Saturday at the Ballet with George. On January 24 we celebrate NYCB Founder George Balanchine’s birthday with a full day of activities and two all-Balanchine performances showcasing the mastery of this 20th-century choreographer.

Experience New York City Ballet in a whole new way in this 75-minute movement workshop intended for adults with little or no dance training. New York City Ballet dancers lead participants through a ballet warm-up and movement combinations with choreography inspired by some of Balanchine’s most revered works. Workshop also includes a brief Q&A with the artists.


12:45 – 1:30 PM // CHILDREN'S WORKSHOP

Appropriate for families with children ages 5 to 8

Join the artists of New York City Ballet in this 45-minute pre-performance exploration of the music, movement, and themes from George Balanchine’s Donizetti Variations. NYCB Teaching Artists guide children in a ballet warm-up and movement combination, concluding in a lively performance for accompanying family and friends. No prior dance training needed.

Beginning with a curtain welcome marking the occasion, this all-Balanchine program draws from over 400 works in the choreographer’s canon. Together Donizetti Variations, La Valse, and Chaconne are ever more impactful for their individual uniqueness.

Location: Fourth Ring Theater Right Side
Gather on the theater’s Fourth Ring for an informative discussion prior to the performance and during intermissions. NYCB docents will provide details on the ballets being performed in the evening’s program, including insights into the music and George Balanchine’s choreographic process.


8 PM // EVENING PERFORMANCE

Ticket Required: $29 – $164
Location: Auditorium
Opening with a special curtain welcome to celebrate the occasion, this evening’s performance will present uncontested masterworks. Serenade, Agon, and Symphony In C showcase vastly differing styles for a Balanchine experience that simply cannot be missed.
