Friandises

Choreography by: Peter Martins

Music by: Christopher Rouse, commissioned for New York City Ballet and The Juilliard School on the occasion of The Juilliard School's 100th Anniversary.

Friandises — French for "morsels" or "tidbits" — is cast in the form of a French dance suite. After the opening Intrada, each of the movements tries to reflect an essential element of the traditional dance: the compound meter of the siciliane, the syncopations of the passepied, the 3/2 meter of the sarabande, and the presto tempo and high spirits of the galop.
