Friandises — French for "morsels" or "tidbits" — is cast in the form of a French dance suite. After the opening Intrada, each of the movements tries to reflect an essential element of the traditional dance: the compound meter of the siciliane, the syncopations of the passepied, the 3/2 meter of the sarabande, and the presto tempo and high spirits of the galop.—Christopher Rouse
