Christopher Wheeldon was born in Yeovil, Somerset, England, and began his ballet training at age eight. When he was 11, Mr. Wheeldon enrolled at the Royal Ballet School, and in 1991, he joined The Royal Ballet. That same year, he won the Gold Medal at the Prix de Lausanne competition. In 1993, he was invited to join New York City Ballet. In addition to his dancing, Mr. Wheeldon has choreographed works for Ballet, Inc., The Royal Ballet, The Royal Ballet School, and the School of American Ballet. This is his first work choreographed for New York City Ballet's The Diamond Project
