Senior Director of Development Position Available

Position Summary

We seek a highly motivated, experienced, collaborative and creative individual with a demonstrated track record to serve as Senior Director of Development.  Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Director of Development will be responsible for providing leadership to and management of the fundraising department in order to achieve a contributed income goal of $21 million in FY2011, and for developing strategies to increase overall contributed income significantly in future years.  

The director oversees a staff of 20 who seek contributed funds via five major fundraising sectors:  foundation and government support; membership; major gifts; corporate sponsorships and special events (galas).  The individual works very closely with members of the Board of Directors and is the lead staff person with the Development and Nominating Committees of the Board.  He/she serves as an integral member of the Senior Management Team.

Qualifiications

  • 10 plus years progressive fundraising and management experience at a senior level, preferably in a cultural institution, with demonstrated track record in raising significant funds from a variety of sources 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategies that lead to increased contributed income
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully through board and volunteer networks to identify and secure contributed funds
  • Personal knowledge and network of relationships within the community and familiarity with the New York City philanthropic community strongly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Senior Director Of Marketing and Digial Media Position Available.

Position Summary
We seek a highly motivated, experienced, collaborative and creative individual with a demonstrated track record to serve as Senior Director of Marketing and Digital Media.  The ideal candidate will be capable of developing and realizing a comprehensive and unified vision for the company’s brand, revenue and audience development goals.  An entrepreneurial thinker and opportunist in the best sense of the word, he/she will be deeply knowledgeable of and experienced with new digital media technologies and systems, in addition to sophisticated marketing methodologies in the more conventional realm. 

This individual will lead a department responsible for achieving a ticket sales revenue goal of approximately $26 million in fiscal year 2011, representing the sale of a total of approximately 270,000 tickets at a total of 112 performances across the year.  In addition the department includes group sales, telemarketing, ticket services, retail, creative services, and digital and new media.  This position reports to the Executive Director and supervises a staff of 15.  He/she is an integral member of the Ballet’s senior management team. 

Responsibilities 

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan which will ensure the achievement of short and long term revenue goals, including strategies for audience development, sales and promotions, developing market and analytical research capabilities and adjusting pricing models as appropriate. 
  • Develop and implement strategies for strengthening institutional identity and brand, work with senior staff colleagues and others on strategies and practices that will ensure brand consistency across the organization
  • Oversee comprehensive re-design of the organization’s website, develop digital media strategy and further integrate use of social media networks
  • Develop marketing media strategy including integration of the ballet’s content and visual image on the internet and in promotional materials; analyze opportunities using new media tools and platforms and determine best investment of resources against goals
  • Working with DHKT staff and NYCB colleagues, lead the organization’s comprehensive effort to improve the overall customer experience
  • Oversee development of strategies for maximizing revenues of group sales and retail operations 
  • Oversee ticket services for patrons,  maximizing outstanding customer service
  • Oversee creative services team, develop and execute organization-wide design guidelines and parameters for printed and other visual materials
  • Develop and oversee the department’s annual budget and long range financial projections, including establishing income goals, monitoring and reporting to the Executive Director and Board on progress, and managing expenses.
  • Determine most effective departmental structure, build strength in department as needed, analyze and evaluate in-house and external resource needs
  • In partnership with the Development Department, establish collaborations to develop and support funding opportunities in the corporate area.
  • Act as staff liaison to the Marketing Committee of the Board.
  • Participate as a key member of the Senior Management team and in relevant planning and strategy groups.

Qualifiications

  • 10 plus years progressive management experience at a senior level with demonstrated effectiveness in marketing and sales 
  • Master’s Degree or an equivalent combination of academic and professional experience in a growth industry.  
  • Direct experience in marketing (promotion, ticket sales, group sales, telemarketing, direct mail, etc.), brand management, and merchandising, ideally in an arts environment. 
  • Deep understanding and experience with new media resources and successful track record of integrating them within strategies developed to fulfill organizational goals
  • Must be a creative, entrepreneurial thinker with ability to develop innovative approaches and strategies in a collaborative manner
  • Effective and experienced manager of staff with demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and hire effectively
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, balancing a broad range of needs and agendas, and producing at the highest level of excellence in a fast paced deadline-oriented environment
  • Strong organizational skills, proven ability to manage budgets and expenses

Senior Director, Finance and Administration Position Available:

Company Background

NYCB has an annual operating budget of approximately $62 million and an endowment of approximately $150 million, and is dependent on both earned and contributed income.  Like many performing arts and cultural institutions in the United States, the company is examining its operations in the context of changing demographics, dramatically altered ways in which consumers access entertainment, and economic pressures.  

With these conditions as a backdrop, beginning in late 2008 and culminating in 2009 the board, staff and other company stakeholders engaged in a strategic planning exercise, resulting in a comprehensive set of key observations and recommendations for strategic initiatives and directions over the next 5-10 years aimed at securing the continued success and position of the company.   The plan’s successful execution depends heavily on a strong financial operation, including the development and application of increased analytical resources and financial information.  Thus the individual in this position will be key to contributing to the effort to fully develop and implement the strategic plan and putting NYCB in the strongest possible position for the future. 

Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the Senior Director of Finance and Administration will be responsible for NYCB’s budgeting and financial planning, accounting, investments, audit, risk management, archives, information systems and human resources, and serving as lead staff for the Finance and Audit Committees as well as other Board committees as appropriate. We seek a finance executive with a proven track record of strong financial management and analysis and creative problem-solving to join a prominent mission-driven organization at a crucial time in its history as it re-positions itself for the next decade and beyond.

Responsibilities
Oversee and manage all aspects of NYCB‘s financial planning and operations including budgeting, accounting, investments, audit, and insurance and risk management

  • Analyze operations practices, policies and internal controls to assure maximum financial efficiency and potential revenue
  • Provide cost benefit and other financial analysis for business development opportunities and new initiatives
  • Serve as the management liaison to the Finance and Audit Committees, communicate and present critical financial matters at Board and committee meetings, produce regular status reports as appropriate
  • Work closely with finance and management team of City Center of Music and Drama, the umbrella organization that provides some joint services and operates the David H. Koch Theater on behalf of NYCB and New York City Opera
  • Oversee NYCB’s Archives, Information Technology, Human Resources functions

Qualifiications
CPA or MBA preferred

  • Minimum ten years experience in a senior management role with both external audit and in-house financial management experience
  • Familiarity with non-profit finance and accounting regulations ideal but not required
  • Proven track record of success facilitating progressive organizational change and development within a complex organization
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills

New York City Ballet Archivist Position Available:
Position Summary:

Primary functions include surveying, describing, classifying, arranging, digitizing and preserving materials. Other duties include retrieving items from the collection for use by patrons and staff, project planning, exhibition preparation, observing due care in the handling of the materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process archival materials in all formats (paper, photographic, digital, video, audio, textile, three-dimensional, etc.) according to departmental and national standards, including re-housing, labeling, re-foldering, arrangement, assessing preservation condition, filing, writing finding aids and catalog records and, when necessary, preparing material for remote storage.
  • Provide guidance and supervise the digitizing and processing work of volunteers and interns.
  • Fielding and fulfilling internal and external archival requests as needed.  Archivist is responsible for all in-house image reproduction and participates in research activities based on archival materials.   
  • Oversees agreement, transportation and insurance compliance for all external archival loans.  Prepares loan forms and archival materials for transportation off-site, as needed.
  • Directs safekeeping of archival documents, costumes, photographs, manuscripts, moving image, recorded sound, oversized materials and memorabilia.
  • Oversees all archival accessions, de-accessions and the establishment of new collections into the New York City Ballet Archives.
  • Maintenance and further development of archival database (Microsoft Access) for each collection.  Establish and maintain departmental digital library.
  • Management of New York City Ballet Archive items stored at two remote storage locations.
  • Oversee all supply orders and departmental budget.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of archival best practices and processing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good verbal/written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of copyright law.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office; as well as, experience with digitization and Adobe Photoshop is required.
  • Masters degree in Library Science, Museum Studies or related field is required.  Archivist will have a minimum of three years working in performing arts archive or comparable experience.

Graphic Design Intern Position Available

New York City Ballet is seeking a graphic design intern for the Fall semester - we will work with school schedules if applicable. The intern will work creatively within the Company’s brand style guide on various NYCB marketing materials (which include all collateral and brochures, posters, signage, outdoor, logos, print advertising, merchandise, exhibits, and some web graphics) with art direction from NYCB’s 2 in-house designers. 

In addition to assisting with the design and production of marketing materials the intern will also be responsible for collecting research materials for various projects, helping to organize and archive jobs and ballet photography, and creating and mocking up comps when needed.


Qualifications: College junior/senior or graduate student, getting credit for the internship. Strong typographic skills, knowledge of Adobe CS3 (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and basic knowledge of black and white and color photographic processes and retouching. Portfolio required. 16 hours minimum per week. Unpaid for credit only. Travel stipend included.
