Intern - Position Available, The George Balanchine Trust and the New York Choreographic Institute

New York City Ballet is accepting applications for an Intern for the Winter season. This project-oriented opportunity will entail computer-related research and database management. Educational experiences offered in the position include the development of knowledge of the ballet field worldwide, and an exposure to the operations of The George Balanchine Trust and the New York Choreographic Institute. All interested applicants should possess excellent computer skills, an aptitude for research, strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task. Interns must commit to a minimum of 15hrs/week. A thorough knowledge of computer programs including video editing software and online media (specifically YouTube) are required, and an interest in classical ballet preferred.

Intern – Donor Records (Unpaid) Position Available

Description:
The New York City Ballet is accepting applications for an Intern to assist within its Donor Records Department.  This is an opportunity to gain an understanding of fundraising through database management special projects.  Intern will work directly with the Director of Donor Records. 

Strong work ethic, works well with others, and excellent computer skills a must. 

This internship is unpaid.  Desired time commitment is one to two full-time days per week with flexibility to schedule.  School credit may be arranged.

Associate, Corporate Relations Position Available

The Associate, Corporate Relations will support the Director of Corporate Relations in all aspects of managing New York City Ballet’s corporate sponsorships. The Associate will participate in securing and sustaining corporate donors through activities related to the research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate partners.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Developing, writing, and submitting proposals to corporations and corporate foundations tailored to the needs and specific requirements of the potential supporters
  • Stewarding current corporate donors through ensuring fulfillment of sponsorship benefits and activities such as phone calls, email, arranging meetings, as appropriate.
  • Maintaining and documenting comprehensive information on all of the corporate relationships under management and ensuring this information is properly archived
  • The Associate, Corporate Relations will also be one of two staff members overseeing the Young Patron’s Circle, the Company’s membership group for supporters in their 20’s and 30’s.
  • Other general responsibilities include:
    • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date corporate records
    • Conducting prospect research and managing prospect lists
    • Identifying sponsorship and funding opportunities
    • Writing acknowledgement and solicitation letters, and other correspondence
    • Assisting with Special Events
    • Providing general administrative support for the Corporate Relations team

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • 2 years relevant experience fundraising and/or cause-related marketing experience preferred  
  • Exceptional written and communication skills
  • Detailed oriented and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to think creatively and take initiative and be flexible working as part of a team as well as independently.

Director of Corporate Relations Position Available

Position Summary
NYCB seeks to form mutually beneficial and long-term partnerships with corporations that generate revenue and support New York City Ballet’s brand and organizational priorities. Under the management of the Senior Director of Development, the Director of Corporate Relations is responsible for managing all strategies and activities for corporate donor cultivation and solicitation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee NYCB’s Corporate Relations activities and develop and implement a plan to achieve an annual corporate fundraising target.
  • Identify key corporate and corporate foundation prospects and build a pipeline for future support of NYCB.
  • Develop mutually beneficial and revenue-generating partnership opportunities with companies by linking the mission of NYCB with their corporate and philanthropic missions.
  • Develop, write, and submit proposals to corporations and corporate foundations tailored to the needs and specific requirements of the potential supporters
  • Steward current and prospective corporate donors through activities such as phone calls, email, meetings and visits, as appropriate.
  • Maintain and document comprehensive information on all of the corporate relationships under management and for ensuring this information is properly archived.
  • Collaborate with events team on invitation management for cultivation events, proposing and implementing strategies to engage and attract new corporate prospects; assist with planning and implementing comprehensive follow-up strategies with current corporate donors and prospects.
  • Manage NYCB’s Advisory Board and act as the key point-of-contact for all cultivation efforts, solicitation of new Advisory Board members, annual meetings, and events.
  • Directly supervise and mentor the Manager of Corporate Relations, who is responsible for supporting the cultivation, solicitation, and management of corporate and corporate foundation support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • 7-10 years relevant experience
  • General knowledge of fundraising and/or corporate sales principles and techniques

Director, Individual Giving Position Available (Reports to: Senior Director of Development)

Position Summary:  The Director, Individual Giving is responsible for managing and executing all levels of New York City Ballet’s (NYCB) individual giving program, including membership programs, major gifts, and planned giving.  The Director manages a staff of 8.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee all activities of the individual giving area, including non-membership contributions tied to program support as well as specific individual donor groups.
  • Oversee a comprehensive membership program (gifts from $90-$6,499) that includes telemarketing, digital, social networking and direct mail campaigns, as well as the implementation of donor benefits and events.
  • Ensure an effective strategy amongst donor groups to identify, cultivate, and solicit donors with the goal of increasing their levels of support on an annual basis.
  • Play a key role in developing and executing a strategy of approach for major gifts prospects, involving development staff, senior staff, and NYCB’s Board of Directors.
  • Develop and manage a personal portfolio of major donors and prospects.
  • Guide and prepare Board members in identifying, cultivating, and engaging donors with NYCB.
  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Development to identify prospective leadership for NYCB's Board of Directors, Board committees, and gala fundraising events.
  • In conjunction with senior staff, devise and recommend strategies for organization’s long-term fundraising objectives.
  • Oversee planning and execution of numerous cultivation/recognition events and activities annually, manage ongoing donor communication via written and electronic correspondence, and ensure that all donor relationship information is recorded in NYCB's database.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of NYCB, its mission, culture, history, key stakeholders, programs, and finances.
  • Stay abreast of philanthropic, economic, and social, and community trends related to NYCB.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of ten years of individual giving development experience preferred, ideally within a cultural setting.
  • Demonstrated success in major gift prospecting, cultivation, solicitation and closing for a performing arts or related organization.
  • Capacity to establish, maintain, and strengthen relationships with significant donors; and an understanding of the record-keeping and stewardship systems that support a successful donor relations program (particularly Tessitura).
  • Familiarity with the NYC philanthropic community.
  • Capacity to organize and prioritize fundraising activities effectively and to guide staff members in managing their particular responsibilities.
  • A proven manager that promotes teamwork, creativity, and open communication.
  • Comfort with managing multiple assignments in a fast-paced not-for-profit setting.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in events outside the workday schedule.
  • Availability for periodic travel, as necessary.

Senior Director Of Marketing and Digital Media Position Available.
Position Summary
We seek a highly motivated, experienced, collaborative and creative individual with a demonstrated track record to serve as Senior Director of Marketing and Digital Media.  The ideal candidate will be capable of developing and realizing a comprehensive and unified vision for the company’s brand, revenue and audience development goals.  An entrepreneurial thinker and opportunist in the best sense of the word, he/she will be deeply knowledgeable of and experienced with new digital media technologies and systems, in addition to sophisticated marketing methodologies in the more conventional realm. 

This individual will lead a department responsible for achieving a ticket sales revenue goal of approximately $26 million in fiscal year 2011, representing the sale of a total of approximately 270,000 tickets at a total of 112 performances across the year.  In addition the department includes group sales, telemarketing, ticket services, retail, creative services, and digital and new media.  This position reports to the Executive Director and supervises a staff of 15.  He/she is an integral member of the Ballet’s senior management team. 

Responsibilities 

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan which will ensure the achievement of short and long term revenue goals, including strategies for audience development, sales and promotions, developing market and analytical research capabilities and adjusting pricing models as appropriate. 
  • Develop and implement strategies for strengthening institutional identity and brand, work with senior staff colleagues and others on strategies and practices that will ensure brand consistency across the organization
  • Oversee comprehensive re-design of the organization’s website, develop digital media strategy and further integrate use of social media networks
  • Develop marketing media strategy including integration of the ballet’s content and visual image on the internet and in promotional materials; analyze opportunities using new media tools and platforms and determine best investment of resources against goals
  • Working with DHKT staff and NYCB colleagues, lead the organization’s comprehensive effort to improve the overall customer experience
  • Oversee development of strategies for maximizing revenues of group sales and retail operations 
  • Oversee ticket services for patrons,  maximizing outstanding customer service
  • Oversee creative services team, develop and execute organization-wide design guidelines and parameters for printed and other visual materials
  • Develop and oversee the department’s annual budget and long range financial projections, including establishing income goals, monitoring and reporting to the Executive Director and Board on progress, and managing expenses.
  • Determine most effective departmental structure, build strength in department as needed, analyze and evaluate in-house and external resource needs
  • In partnership with the Development Department, establish collaborations to develop and support funding opportunities in the corporate area.
  • Act as staff liaison to the Marketing Committee of the Board.
  • Participate as a key member of the Senior Management team and in relevant planning and strategy groups.

Qualifiications

  • 10 plus years progressive management experience at a senior level with demonstrated effectiveness in marketing and sales 
  • Master’s Degree or an equivalent combination of academic and professional experience in a growth industry.  
  • Direct experience in marketing (promotion, ticket sales, group sales, telemarketing, direct mail, etc.), brand management, and merchandising, ideally in an arts environment. 
  • Deep understanding and experience with new media resources and successful track record of integrating them within strategies developed to fulfill organizational goals
  • Must be a creative, entrepreneurial thinker with ability to develop innovative approaches and strategies in a collaborative manner
  • Effective and experienced manager of staff with demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and hire effectively
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, balancing a broad range of needs and agendas, and producing at the highest level of excellence in a fast paced deadline-oriented environment
  • Strong organizational skills, proven ability to manage budgets and expenses
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentational communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for the art form and New York City Ballet’s mission
