New York City Ballet has announced its schedule of special presentation programs for the 2002 spring repertory season. These programs include Ballet Insights and Family Insights pre-performance discussions; and Monday evening Seminars, which provide an in-depth look at a variety of topics.
All of NYCB’s presentation programs are designed to enhance and further illuminate the Company’s performances at the New York State Theater.
Leadership support for NYCB’s education and outreach programs has been generously provided by the Lila Acheson & DeWitt Wallace Fund for Lincoln Center, established by the founders of the Reader’s Digest Association, Inc.
Seminars
New York City Ballet Seminars are held on Monday evenings on the stage of the New York State Theater, and feature artists from the Company discussing a variety of topics.
Monday, May 6, 6:00-7:30pm
Topic: Diamond Project choreographers Mauro Bigonzetti and Albert Evans with composer Bruno Moretti discuss the creation of their new works for the spring season.
Monday, June 17, 6:00-7:30pm
Topic: Choreographers and designers from this spring’s Diamond Project ballet discuss their collaborations.
New York City Ballet’s Seminars are held in the New York State Theater, 20 Lincoln Center, 63rd Street at Columbus Avenue. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the New York State Theater box office or on-line at www.nycballet.com.
Ballet Insights
Ballet Insights introduce audiences to the artists of New York City Ballet. Inside NYCB’s rehearsal studios, musicians, choreographers, dancers, designers, ballet masters and production managers share their art and knowledge. These pre-performance programs are 45 minutes each and are designed for adult and young adult audiences.
Friday, May 3, 6:45-7:30pm
Topic: An exploration of New York City Ballet’s music with pianist Alan Moverman, focusing on scores being used for new Diamond Project ballets this spring.
Sunday, June 2, 1:45-2:30pm
Topic: A discussion and demonstration of lighting effects used in the ballets on that afternoon’s program with Lighting Director Mark Stanley.
Thursday, June 6, 6:45-7:30pm
Topic: An examination of the relationship between of music and choreography in Jerome Robbins’ A Suite of Dances, with Ballet Master Jean-Pierre Frohlich and cellist Ann Kim Rozenblatt, who performs onstage with the solo dancer in this work.
Friday, June 14, 6:45-7:30pm
Topic: A discussion of the role of the Sleepwalker in George Balanchine’s La Sonnambula, with former NYCB Principal Dancer Allegra Kent, who originated the role in the NYCB revival of the ballet.
Ballet Insights are moderated by New York City Ballet staff members.

Family Insights
Family Insights are 45-minute pre-performance programs and are designed for children ages eight and above. Participants will have the opportunity to see and hear dancers, musicians and other artists explore the topics of music, costumes, choreography and backstage work.
Saturday, May 11, 12:45-1:30pm
Topic: An exploration of George Balanchine’s Vienna Waltzes with pianist Susan Walters, who will teach the children about the waltz, and dancers from the cast, who will demonstrate some of the choreography and lead the children in a section from the ballet.
Saturday, June 8, 12:45-1:30pm
Topic: An introduction to the diversity of ballet costumes in this afternoon’s performance with NYCB Director of Costumes Holly Hynes, who will guide the children in creating their own costume designs.
Programs are moderated by New York City Ballet staff members.
