New York City Ballet 2000 Winter Season seminar series will feature three Monday evening discussions at the New York State Theater on January 17, January 24 and January 31. All seminars begin at 6 p.m.
The first seminar on January 17 will feature a discussion with Suki Schorer, faculty member at the School of American Ballet and a former Principal Dancer with New York City Ballet. For this discussion Miss Schorer will present key ideas from her recent book, Suki Schorer on Balanchine Technique, focusing on how George Balanchine taught technique in the classroom and how it is used in his ballets. For this seminar New York City Ballet dancers Peter Boal, Jock Soto, Wendy Whelan, Dana Hanson, Deanna McBrearty, and Jared Angel will demonstrate and perform.
The second seminar on January 24 will feature a discussion with Twyla Tharp on her new ballet for New York City Ballet that will premiere on Saturday, January 22. For this seminar several dancers from the new ballet will join Miss Tharp for the discussion.
On January 31, New York City Ballet will present the final seminar of the winter season featuring a discussion with the Company’s Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins and Jazz at Lincoln Center Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis. Mr. Martins and Mr. Marsalis will discuss their partnership in the creation of Them Twos, the most recent collaboration between New York City Ballet and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
