KENT STOWELL
Kent Stowell has been Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer of Pacific Northwest Ballet since 1977. His contributions to the Company’s repertory include The Nutcracker, Dumbarton Oaks, Carmina Burana, and Firebird. Mr. Stowell began his dance training with Willam Christensen at the University of Utah, later joining San Francisco Ballet and, in 1962, New York City Ballet. In 1970, he joined the Munich Opera Ballet as a leading dancer and choreographer. Mr. Stowell was Ballet Master and Choreographer for Frankfurt Ballet before being named the Company’s Co-Artistic Director in 1975. Among his awards and honors are the University of Utah’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and, with Ms. Russell, the Washington State Governor’s Award, and, in 1992, honorary doctorates from Seattle University.
