JIRI BUBENICEK

Jiři Bubeniček was born in 1974 in Prague, Czech Republic.  He studied dance at the Prague Dance Conservatory, and in 1993 he made his professional debut with John Neumeir’s Hamburg Ballet. After two years he was promoted to soloist, and by 1997 was a principal dancer for the company.  In August 2006, Mr. Bubeniček began performing as a principal dancer for the Dresden SemperOper Ballet and has made many guest appearances with  Europe’s leading ballet companies such as the Paris Opera Ballet.  His film credits include Donna Feuer’s documentary, The Work of Utopia and the leading role of King Ludwig II in John Neumeir’s DVD production of Illusions-like Swan Lake.  As a choreographer, Mr. Bubenicek has created new works such as Le souffle de l´esprit for the Zurich Ballet, Unerreichbare Orte for the Hamburg Ballet, and Graffity for Laterna Magika in Prague.  His works have been presented internationally throughout Europe and Japan. Mr. Bubeniček has received many accolades for his work as both dancer and choreographer.  As a student, he was presented with an award as first soloist at the Prix de Lausanne in 1992. During his professional dance career, Mr. Bubeniček has been presented with the prestigious award as Best Danseur at the International Dance Association’s Prix Benois de la Danse in 2002.  As a choreographer, Mr. Bubeniček’s awards include the second place award at the 20th International Ballet Competition in Varna for his work Made on Earth and  the Public’s Choice Award for Prisoners of Feelings at the 18th International Competition for Choreographers in Hanover.
