DANIELA CARDIM

Daniela Cardim was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and began training at the Eliana Karin Ballet School.  At age 16 she received a scholarship to Princess Grace Dance Academy in Monaco under the direction of Marika Besobrasova.  In 1994, Cardim joined the Ballet of Municipal Theater in Rio de Janeiro where she was a soloist until 1995.  She has danced featured roles in Sleeping Beauty (Lilac fairy, Carabosse), Giselle (Mirtha), and Suite en Blanc (La Cigarrete).  She choreographed her first piece in 1994 at age 20 and received fourth prize in the XI New Choreographers Competition of Rio de Janeiro.  In 2003 she choreographed for Het Nationale Ballet's “New Moves” workshop and continued to participate in the workshop in 2004 and 2005.  In 2006 she was commissioned to choreograph pieces for HNB as well as National Ballet Academy.  Her work for HNB was performed at Concertgebouw with the Holland Symfonia Orchestra in 2007.  She also created three pieces for “New Moves” in June 2007.  Cardim is currently dancing and choreographing in Amsterdam.  She is a coryphée at Het Nationale Ballet where she has danced since 1999.  Her featured roles include Sleeping Beauty (Carabosse), Swan Lake (two big swans), and La Valse (three girls).
