ALEJANDRO CERRUDO
Alejandro Cerrudo was born in Madrid, Spain, and studied at the Real Conservatorio Professional de Danza in Madrid. In 1998 he joined the Victor Ullate Company. The following season Cerrudo moved to Germany to dance with the Stuttgart Ballet where he also choreographed his first piece for the annual choreographic workshop in 2001. From 2002 to 2005, Cerrudo joined Nederlands Dans Theater II to perform works by Jirí Kylián, Lightfoot-Leon, Ohad Naharin, Johan Inger, Hans Van Manen, and many others. In August 2005 he joined the Chicago-based Hubbard Street Dance Company and the following year he was invited to choreograph his first work Lickety-Split for HSDC (Critics picks 2006, Chicago Reader). Last year Cerrudo marked his second world premiere for HSDC with his work Extremely Close, commissioned by the Joyce Theater in New York City. Alejandro has also been awarded the Bronze Medal at the 5th International Competition for Ballet & Modern Dance in Nagoya, Japan (2005) and at the Hannover International Choreographic Competition in Germany (2006).
