DAVID FIELDING
David Fielding is an independent choreographer and former dancer with the National Ballet of Portugal and Birmingham Royal Ballet. Born in England, he trained at The Royal Ballet School, where he began choreographing at the age of 11. From 1991 to 1993, Mr. Fielding choreographed for the students at The Royal Ballet Summer School. He won first prize at the Kenneth MacMillan Choreographic Competition in 1990 and prizes at the Ursula Moreton Choreographic Competition in 1991 and 1993. In 1993, Mr. Fielding joined the National Ballet of Portugal, where he danced soloist roles, including an original role in Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker's The Lisbon Piece. He has created five of his own ballets for the National Ballet of Portugal: Fratres, Bontempo, Nine Dancers, Facing a Mirror, Present Tense, and Cantoluso (a collaboration with Rui Lopes Graça and Armando Maciel). Among Mr. Fielding's other works are Stringblisters and Echoed Figure for the Escola de Dança do Conservatorio Nacional de Lisboa, Dançarmax for the Companhia de Bailado da Madeira, Touched and High Octane for the Companhia de Bailado Comtemporaneo, Spiral Forms and Momentum Part 1 & 2 for Bird Theatre Company, Wasserwerke for Dance Theatre of Giessen, Abstract with Red Accents for ROH2, La Fille Mal Gardee for the Royal Opera House Chance to Dance project, Sinuous Stream for Kent Youth Ballet, Pulse for Millennium Dance, Measured Paces for Ballet Central, Solonely for Invençoes at the Centro Cultural de Belem in Lisbon and two short dance films. In 2005 Mr. Fielding created his first full length narrative ballet with specially-commissioned score for the London Children's Ballet entitled The Canterville Ghost based on a short story by Oscar Wilde and most recently has created a new work for Ballet X in Philadelphia.
