DOUGLAS LEE
Douglas Lee, born in England, received his initial ballet training at the Arts Educational School in London. Attending on scholarship, his training continued at the Royal Ballet School. Upon his graduation in 1996, Mr. Lee joined the Stuttgart Ballet, where he was promoted to soloist in September 2001 and to principal dancer just one year later. Mr. Lee has danced leading roles in many productions such as Giselle, Romeo and Juliet, Onegin, The Taming of the Shrew, and Edward II. He made his choreographic debut in February 1999 for the Noverre Society with his work, Jane, John, John, Jane, Jane, John... He also choreographed One to Another for the Noverre Society. Reid Anderson, Artistic Director for the Stuttgart Ballet, has commissioned many works by Mr. Lee, including: Curtain of Hands, 1999; Siren Sounding, June 2001; Cindy’s Gift, May, 2002 (premiered at the Playhouse in Stuttgart). Aubade was presented in June 2003 as Lee’s first ballet for the stage of the Stuttgart Opera House, followed by Lachrymal in April 2004. In March 2005, he created Fractured Wake for the Norwegian National Ballet. Lee’s Rubicon Play was created for the Royal Ballet of Flanders and premiered on February 15, 2006. In June 2006 he presented the world premiere of Viewing Room, for the Stuttgart Ballet.
