SABRINA MATTHEWS
Sabrina Matthews is a soloist with Alberta Ballet. A graduate of the National Ballet School, she has performed roles in ballets such as A Midsummer Night's Dream and Blank Snow. As a choreographer, she has created a number of works for Alberta Ballet, including Continuum (2000), Delude (2000), and Ein von vie! (2001). Among Ms. Matthews other works are Nostalgia (1998) and Unknown Territory (1999) for the Alberta Ballet Workshop; Juxt a Pose (1998) and Conintinuum (1999) for Alberta Ballet's Cartier Auction fundraiser; Viennese Waltz (1999) for the Austrian Canadian Society; and Destino Incierto (2000) for the Alberta Ballet School of Dance. In 2002, Ms. Matthews participated in the New York Choreographic Institute's spring session. In April of the same year, Ms. Matthews choreographed and starred in the Bravo!Fact film Dance to This (a collaboration with director Simon Dekker). She has created six new works for the Alberta Ballet, as well as numerous other works for dance companies and schools across Canada. Her work Unbound premiered at the first Beijing International Dance Festival. Recently, Ms. Matthews has created pieces for Ballet Jörgen and the Glenbow Museum's Rodin Exhibition. In September 2004, Ms.Matthews was awarded the prestigious Clifford E. Lee award in Banff, Alberta.
