EMILY MOLNAR
Named as one of Canada's new generation of "ballet sensations" (MacLeans Magazine, November 2003) Emily Molnar is a graduate of the National Ballet School and a former member of the National Ballet of Canada, Frankfurt Ballet - where she created and performed an extensive repertory under director William Forsythe, and most recently as a principal dancer with Ballet British Columbia. Ms. Molnar worked closely with Ballet BC Artistic Director John Alleyne in the creation of her role as Puck in The Fairie Queen and Persephone in Orpheus. She has worked with mentor Margie Gillis, both performing Ms. Gillis' work, Speak, and collaborating with her on Breathing in Bird Bones. Since 1998 she has created and performed several works in her ongoing development as a choreographer and solo artist. Recent works include a new commission, 4 Flights down, for Cedar Lake Dance (New York City); a solo evening SubSilence, integrating dance, new video and an original music composition; and Portrait of a Suspended Grace, a work for seven men, for Alberta Ballet. Ms. Molnar was invited to participate in the New York Choreographic Institute where she worked with dancers from New York City Ballet. She created Carmina Burana for Alberta Ballet's 2006 -2007 season and is developing a new full-length work, A Strange Collection of Sorts. Ms. Molnar was named Artist in Residence at Arts Umbrella in 2003, where she also acts as rehearsal director for the Junior Dance Company and creative process teacher.
