MATJASH MROZEWSKI

Matjash Mrozewski is a Toronto-based freelance choreographer and a former dancer with The National Ballet of Canada, Le Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, and Les Ballets de Monte Carlo. He performed roles such as Uncle Nikolai in The Nutcracker, the Ugly Stepsister in Cinderella, Glenn 2 in James Kudelka's A Disembodied Voice, and a featured role in Dominique Dumais' one hundred words for snow, among others. Mr. Mrozewski has created choreography for Fashion Cares and the Fringe Festival of Independent Dance Artists. His works include A Delicate Battle (2001); People Are Scary for Toronto Dance Theatre (2001); Charged Airs for the National Ballet School's Spring Showcase; Lost and Found (2002) for Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre; Virgin Queen (2002); Girl Power for the York Dance Ensemble (2002), and Another Space (2002), which took third place at "Genesis," Milwaukee Ballet's first international choreography competition. In 2003 he staged A Delicate Battle for the West Australian Ballet, created Adventures in Classicism for The National Ballet School and choreographed the hour-long dance film, Year of the Lion. In November of the same year, The National Ballet of Canada unveiled Monument for 29 dancers, and he also premiered his first full-evening work, Break Open Play, at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Mr. Mrozewski created Straight Life, his second work for Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, in 2004, and his first piece for The Royal Ballet, A World of Art, premiered in the Linbury Theatre of the Royal Opera House as part of the Inspired by Diaghilev evening. He created No One Dies for the fFIDA in Toronto, and adapted A Delicate Battle for film.

Mrozewski premiered The Great Attractor for Houston Ballet in October 2004, presented Break Open Play in Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto, and created Avatar for the Stuttgart Ballet, which premiered in February, 2005.
