RICHARD SIEGAL
Richard Siegal danced with William Forsythe's Ballett Frankfurt from 1997 through its final season in 2004. During his tenure with Ballet Frankfut, he was named “Outstanding Dancer” by Balletanz’s Annual Critics’ Survey (1998, 2000, 2003). In 2002 Mr. Siegal founded the Paris based dance company The Bakery, which is an organization dedicated to the exploration and production of contemporary performance. Mr. Siegal’s choreography has been presented three times by Ballett Frankfurt. The most recent presentation was the 2002 trilogy, x(evening). In 2004, Mr. Siegal was made an honorary member of the Bolshoi Ballet’s Benois de la Danse and was awarded a fellowship at the prestigious MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire. In 2006, Mr. Siegal premiered new work for The Athens International Dance Festival. The same year, he premiered a new production, Stranger/Stranger Report, for Theatre National de Chaillot in Paris. The production was in cooperation with Festival D’Automne and Mousonturm, Frankfurt. For this work, Mr. Siegal recieved the Mouson Award. Mr. Siegal’s web-based project, If/Then Open Source which is made in collaboration with Hillary Goidell and Florent Berenger, was recently awarded The SACD Prize at The Monaco Dance Forum. He is on faculty of D.A.N.C.E. and at American Dance Festival for which he also curates an annual Forsythe Festival.
