CHRISTIAN SPUCK

Christian Spuck was appointed Resident Choreographer of the Stuttgart Ballet in June 2001. Trained at the John Cranko School, he began his career with Needcompany in 1993, during which time he also danced with ROSAS in Belgium. From 1994 to 1996, Mr. Spuck was the choreographic assistant to Marco Santi and his Danse Ensemble. He joined the Stuttgart Ballet in 1995 and appeared in works by choreographers Glen Tetley, Robert North, John Cranko, Mauro Bigonzetti, William Forsythe, Martino Muller, and John Neumeier. In 1998, Mr. Spuck was named "Best Up and Coming Choreographer of the 1997-1998 season" by the magazine Ballet International - Tanz Aktuell. His works include Duo/Towards the Night (1996) and Songs from a Secret Garden (1997) for the Noverre Society's "Young Choreographers"; amores 1 (1998) for the Regional Arts Festival of Europe; Morphing Games (1999) for Bigonzetti's Aterballetto; dos amores (1999); Adagio fur 6 Tanzer (2000) for the New York Choreographic Institute; The White Wolf (2000), a co-production with the drama company of the State Theatre Stuttgart; Endless Waltz (2000) for Aalto Ballett Essen; Passacaglia (1998), das siebte blau (2000), Songs (2001), and Carlotta's Portrait (2001) for the Stuttgart Ballet; and Cupid and Death (2002), a co-production with the Young Opera of the Stuttgart State Opera. He also created Chaconne for the Academy of Dance in Mannheim (2001), this- for the Ballet of the State Opera Berlin (2003), shifting portraits for the Ballett Saarbrücken (2004) and The Restless for Hubbard Street Dance 2 Chicago (2005). The Children, based on the play by Edward Bond, premiered in Essen in April 2004.In February 2005 The Children was nominated for the Prix Benois de la Danse.

The Stuttgart Ballet's 2005-2006 season featured a world premiere of another full-length ballet by Christian Spuck.
