CHRISTOPHER STOWELL
Christopher Stowell is the Artistic Director of Oregon Ballet Theater and a former principal dancer with San Francisco Ballet, where he performed the works of Mark Morris, Paul Taylor, Jiri Kylian, David Bintley, William Forsythe, James Kudelka, Jerome Robbins, Sir Frederick Ashton, and George Balanchine, among others. Trained at Pacific Northwest Ballet School and the School of American Ballet, Mr. Stowell joined San Francisco Ballet in 1986, and was promoted to soloist in 1987 and principal dancer in 1990. He created roles in Helgi Tomasson's Con Brio, Meisten Mozart, and Handel - A Celebration. In addition, he has appeared with Malibu Ballet, Detroit Symphony, Riverside Ballet Theater, Ballet Met, and Pacific Northwest Ballet. Mr. Stowell participated in the 1993 and 1994 Choreographic Workshops at San Francisco Ballet, for which he created Karelia Suite for Dancers and Tschaikovsky Dances for Dancers, respectively. His choreography includes Adagio, Presto (1995) for Dance Theater Seven and a work for Marin Ballet's Summer Choreographic Workshop in 1996.
During his 2003-2004 debut season he created Adin, his first ballet for OBT dancers.
