YUAN YUAN WANG
Wang Yuan Yuan, is resident choreographer at the National Ballet of China. At age 10, she was studying at Beijing Dance Academy, where she stayed through high school. She joined one of China's leading dance companies as principal dancer before she returned to the Beijing Dance Academy for college, and graduated from the choreography department. She was hired to teach at the school, where she helped design the Academy's modern dance curriculum.
In 2001, Yuan Yuan Wang was accepted into the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program at the California Institute of Arts (Cal Arts) School of Dance in Los Angeles. During her two years there, she choreographed many modern pieces and taught modern technique class.
Ms. Wang returned to China after graduation, where she re-joined the National Ballet as resident choreographer. She was the choreographer of the National Ballet's Raise the Red Lantern, a full-length ballet directed by Chinese film-maker Zhang Yimou. During this, she choreographed Attraction, a Chinese version of Nutcracker, Rainbow of the Night, Butterfly Lover, The Soul of Sword and Lost in Emotion. She won high honors as a dancer and choreographer at international competitions in Shanghai, Seoul, Paris, Moscow, Jackson (US) and Bulgaria.
Yuan Yuan Wang has been invited by companies in China, such as Shang Hai Ballet, TianJin Ballet and Beijing Dance Academy to show her works Conversation with Chopin, Ambushed From all Side and Unsteady Space. She was invited by The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Art School of Dance where she choreographed Reminisce.
She was invited by director Feng Xiao Gang and Composer Tan Dun to choreograph the movie Banquet of Desire and River from Heaven, composed by Guo Wen Jing. She was commissioned to create a new piece, Color of Love for the Royal Danish Ballet, which premiered in Copenhagen in September 2006.
