Set to an arresting Poulenc organ concerto, Liam Scarlett's first work for NYCB oscillates between touching pas de deux and sweeping ensemble sections — a piece that is at turns sensual and somber.

Liam Scarlett’s first work for New York City Ballet is set to Francis Poulenc’s organ concerto. Scarlett, who is artist in residence at The Royal Ballet, where he was a former first artist, employs three principal couples and a male soloist, plus a corps de ballet of 10 dancers, in Acheron, a title of Greek origin. The ballet features costumes designed by Scarlett together with the NYCB Costume Shop and lighting designed by Mark Stanley.
