Human Resources & Benefits Associate

The New York City Ballet is seeking a Human Resources professional to provide front-line support, with emphasis on benefits administration in addition to workplace safety, employee relations, and recruitment. The ideal candidate is versatile and patient, with a sincere interest in assisting employees while promoting a positive and supportive work environment. This is a full-time Exempt position reporting to the Assistant Director of Human Resources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Manage day-to-day issues for the following group benefit programs: medical/dental/vision, life & ADD, short and long-term disability, workers compensation, health and dependent care flexible spending accounts, qualified transportation benefit, retirement plans, and COBRA
  • Manage reports of workplace injuries and coordinate workers compensation claims as necessary
  • Serve as first point-of-contact and day-to-day problem solver for employees with questions and/or issues on policies and benefits, including following-up with relevant providers as necessary
  • Coordinate Open Enrollment for benefit plans annually, including preparation of relevant payroll deduction reports
  • Manage the accurate and timely processing of monthly benefits-related billings for all group plans, reconciling accounts as necessary
  • Assist with the preparation of union benefit remittance reports as necessary
  • Manage leave requests, disability claims, and workers compensation claims as they arise, including coordination of all required paperwork
  • Handle employment verification requests as they arise
  • Monitor and assist with staffing activities according to each department’s needs, including onboarding and offboarding
  • With Assistant Director of HR, plan and edit all HR-related employee communication
  • Assist department with reports, audits, and other projects as necessary
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
 
  • Working knowledge of benefits administration
  • Familiarity with state and federal laws and regulations affecting HR-related activity
  • Excellent customer service and vendor relationship skills
  • Strong communication skills; excellent spoken and written English; fluency in Spanish a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to deal at all levels with discretion
  • Flexible and detail-oriented, with ability to multi-task, prioritize, and make sound judgement within constantly changing priorities
  • PC proficient with working knowledge of MS Office; prior experience with ADP software a plus
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience, including hands-on work with benefits administration
  • Prior experience with workers comp administration a plus
  • Prior experience in a mixed union/non-union or non-profit/arts environment a plus
