NYCB Founder George Balanchine famously said, “There are no new steps, only new combinations,” and each year the Company pays homage to that affirmation with a world premiere. Sharing the stage with this new work are Martins’ The Red Violin, set to a violin concerto at turns faint or frenzied, and Ratmansky’s critically-acclaimed first NYCB ballet, Russian Seasons, an ensemble piece embracing life in myriad emotions.

Location:
David H. Koch Theater
Running Time:
2 hr 32 min

NEW COMBINATIONS

  • The Red Violin

    • Music by: John Corigliano
    • Choreography by: Peter Martins

Set to music arranged as a Concerto for Violin and Orchestra from the 1998 film by the same name, The Red Violin complements a score that is at turns faint or frenzied with languid duets punctuated by impassioned moments.

  • New Walker

    • Music by: Oliver Davis
    • Choreography by: Peter Walker

Following 2016’s ten in seven, Corps de Ballet Member Peter Walker will premiere his second work for NYCB on the Company’s annual New Combinations program.

  • Russian Seasons

    • Music by: Leonid Desyatnikov
    • Choreography by: Alexei Ratmansky

Ratmansky’s critically-acclaimed first NYCB work is a multi-hued ballet that embraces life's most important moments with its vivid and compelling humanity.
