Launches Sunday, September 8
On Sunday, September 8, New York City Ballet will launch “City Ballet The Podcast,” a new series of conversations with NYCB insiders that offers a behind-the-scenes look at the Company’s extraordinary dancers, musicians, and repertory of ballets. Season One of “City Ballet The Podcast” will begin in conjunction with New York City Ballet’s fall performances and will be available at podcast.nycballet.com and on all platforms where you can listen to podcasts. Additional episodes will be released on September 15, 22, 29, and October 6.
Season One of “City Ballet The Podcast” will feature three categories of episodes: “New Combinations,” hosted by NYCB Associate Artistic Director Wendy Whelan, will focus on new works being created for NYCB as part of the Company’s ongoing and unparalleled commitment to new choreography; “See the Music,” hosted by NYCB Music Director Andrew Litton, will provide insight into the scores and composers that inspire the choreography onstage; and “Hear the Dance,” hosted by NYCB dancer Silas Farley, will explore existing works in NYCB’s storied repertory. Each episode will include interviews with guests from NYCB’s current roster of dancers and musicians, as well as choreographers, ballet masters, and other members of the Company’s artistic staff. “City Ballet The Podcast” will launch with two episodes on Sunday, September 8. NYCB Artistic Director Jonathan Stafford will introduce hosts Whelan, Litton, and Farley in Episode One, and Episode Two will be a two-part “Hear the Dance” episode in which Farley will provide an overview of NYCB’s history

Sunday, September 15: a “Hear the Dance” episode on Jerome Robbins’ Opus 19/The Dreamer, with NYCB Principal Dancer Taylor Stanley, NYCB Concertmaster Kurt Nikkanen, and NYCB Ballet Master Jean-Pierre Frohlich, in conversation with Farley
Sunday, September 22: a “New Combinations” two-part episode featuring choreographers Lauren Lovette and Edwaard Liang, in conversation with Whelan, on their upcoming world premieres
Sunday, September 29: a “Hear the Dance” episode on Merce Cunningham’s Summerspace, with Merce Cunningham Trust répétiteur Jean Freebury and former NYCB Principal Dancer Kay Mazzo, in conversation with Farley
Sunday, October 6: a “See the Music” episode on George Balanchine’s Symphony in C, with a member of the NYCB Orchestra in conversation with Litton “City Ballet The Podcast” will continue throughout NYCB’s 2019-20 performances, with additional podcast seasons through May 2020.
