Edwaard Liang’s Distant Cries explores a Baroque-era adagio with intricately alternating extensions, emotive gestures, and undulating physical maneuvers.
Edwaard Liang’s Distant Cries was created for Peter Boal and Company, and premiered at The Joyce Theater in 2005 before entering the New York City Ballet repertory that year. Originated by Wendy Whelan and Peter Boal, the duet is set to music by Tomaso Albinoni, an Italian composer of the Baroque era. Liang, a former NYCB Soloist who also performed with Nederlands Dans Theater and in Fosse on Broadway, is currently the artistic director of The Washington Ballet.
