Expressing a contradiction between the beauty of the natural world and rapid technological evolution, Jamar Roberts’ Foreseeable Future draws upon sculptural costume designs that feature hypnotic wings to underpin organic fluid movements and angular iridescent attire garbing a futuristic phalanx that weaves through extreme tilts and spirals.
Jamar Roberts’ Foreseeable Future is his third work for New York City Ballet; he previously created the film Water Rite (2020) and the ballet Emanon – In Two Movements (2022) for NYCB. Foreseeable Future features costumes designed by Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen, music by Venezuelan musician, record producer, and multidisciplinary performance artist Arca, and lighting by Tony Award–nominated lighting designer Brandon Stirling Baker.
