Described by The New York Times as “a fleeting chase of romance,” Justin Peck’s Heatscape features a boldly patterned backdrop by artist Shepard Fairey that sets the stage for a dance blazing with exhilarating energy.
Justin Peck’s Heatscape is set to Bohuslav Martinů’s Piano Concerto No. 1. The ballet for 17 dancers, which premiered in 2015, was created for Miami City Ballet and inspired by Miami’s Wynwood Arts District. The ballet features set design by celebrated artist Shepard Fairey, costumes by Reid Bartelme and Harriet Jung, and lighting by Brandon Stirling Baker. Peck has used scores by Martinů for two other NYCB works: Paz de la Jolla (2013) and The Dreamers (2016).
