Kyle Abraham’s movingly contemplative When We Fell embodies a collective sense of isolation in a seamless blend of classical and contemporary choreography.
Kyle Abraham’s When We Fell was originally created as a short film, made in collaboration with co-director Ryan Marie Helfant, as part of an NYCB residency at the Kaatsbaan Cultural Park in Rhinebeck, New York, and filmed on location at the David H. Koch Theater, in 2021. The ballet is set to music by composers Morton Feldman, Jason Moran, and Nico Muhly, and features costume design by Karen Young and lighting design by Dan Scully. When We Fell is one of four works Abraham has created for NYCB; the others are Love Letter (on shuffle) from 2022, the film Ces noms que nous portons, a co-production with Lincoln Center, from 2020, and The Runaway from 2018.
