Drift
Art Series 2023
DRIFT’s installation for the 2023 Art Series curated their Shylight into a site-specific, performative sculpture with the goal of finding live emotion and personality in an inanimate material.
Dutch artists Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta are DRIFT. Along with a multidisciplinary team, they create experiential sculptures, installations, and performances, uniting audiences with moments that inspire a reconnection to our planet. Their installation for the 2023 Art series, with custom choreography supervised by the artists themselves, Shylight's unpredictable, natural-looking movements became an object that felt alive as it descended to blossom in all its glorious beauty, to subsequently close and retreat upward again.
DRIFT has been exhibited at Centre Pompidou (2022), The Shed (2021), Stedelijk Museum (2018), Pace Gallery (2017), Biennale di Venezia (2015), and Victoria & Albert Museum (2009, 2015), amongst others. Their work is held in the permanent collections of the LACMA, Rijksmuseum, SFMOMA, Stedelijk Museum, and Victoria & Albert Museum. In 2014, Drift was awarded the Arte Laguna Prize, Venice.
