STREAMLINED NEOCLASSICISM, DRAMATIC RESONANCE, AND FROLICSOME AMUSEMENT
The diversity of the company’s repertory is on full display via three ballets that transmit starkly contrasted moods. Christopher Wheeldon’s stirring Continuum—his second work for eight dancers scored by the late-20th-century composer György Ligeti’s piano music, after his breakthrough ballet Polyphonia—returns following its NYCB stage debut in Spring 2026, alongside Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky’s moving meditation on loss set to excerpts from Gustav Mahler’s first and fifth symphonies. The buoyant ebullience of Balanchine’s Bourrée Fantasque whisks its cast of 42 through three witty movements set to excerpts from the 19th-century composer Emmanuel Chabrier.
