Copland Dance Episodes

Resident Choreographer Justin Peck’s first original full-length creation from 2023 speaks to the aspirations of NYCB’s founders from the vantage of the present. Scored by resounding compositions from Aaron Copland, the quintessential American composer, the work features set design by the much-lauded artist Jeffrey Gibson, with a vibrant palette that extends to the cast’s practice-attire costumes. The athleticism and communal atmosphere of Peck’s watershed 2015 work Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes, revisited in the ballet’s first section, permeate this vital yet intimate expression of its creator’s and performers’ classical technique through contemporary artistry.
