New Combinations

JAN 27, 29 mat & eve, FEB 1, 6

A Celebration of Innovative Voices with a World Premiere and Two Convention-Challenging Works

NYCB Resident Choreographer Justin Peck's newest work for the Company, Partita, leads the 2021-22 Season's New Combinations program, an annual tradition celebrating the anniversary of Founder George Balanchine's birth with the premiere of new choreography. Featuring scenic designs by Eva Lewitt, the new sneaker ballet is set to a Pulitzer Prize-winning composition by Caroline Shaw, which will be performed live by Grammy-winning vocal band Roomful of Teeth for three of the five performance dates (JAN 27, 29 mat & eve). Merce Cunningham’s pointillistic Summerspace follows, complete with Morton Feldman’s experimental score and the Robert Rauschenberg-designed décor and painted leotards, with Christopher Wheeldon’s charging DGV: Danse à Grande Vitesse, a fleet and intricate dance for a cast of more than 25 performed to a minimalist score by Michael Nyman, closing the program.
