A TRIO OF DANCEMAKERS WHETTING THE EDGE OF CHOREOGRAPHIC INVENTION
Irrepressible exuberance, timeless wit, joyful empowerment: this exhilarating program features three recent and varied works by in-house choreographers. Following its lauded premiere in 2024, Tiler Peck’s kinetic Concerto for Two Pianos enlivens its early 20th-century Francis Poulenc score and “sets her dancers free,” per The New York Times. Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky’s The Naked King clothes the classic Hans Christian Andersen folktale in animated choreography and a rainbow of costumes designed by Santo Loquasto, all set to music by neoclassical composer Jean Françaix. The evening is capped by Justin Peck’s The Times Are Racing from 2017, a vivifying statement of community in choreography set to Dan Deacon’s electronic “USA I-IV” suite from the 2012 album America.

Concerto for Two Pianos
Described by The New York Times as “a physical manifestation of musical notes,” Principal Dancer Tiler Peck’s Concerto for Two Pianos “sets her dancers free” in a whirlwind of choreography set to a sparkling composition by Francis Poulenc and garbed in elegantly airy costumes.
-
The Naked King
Alexei Ratmansky breathes theatrical life into a classic folktale with The Naked King, blending a large cast of characters and lively, athletic movement with delightfully eccentric costumes.

The Times Are Racing
One of the most buzzed about premieres of 2017, The Times Are Racing is a sneaker ballet that sees its dancers in streetwear designed by Opening Ceremony, drawing inspiration from a variety of dance styles while matching Dan Deacon’s electronic score with youthful impulse and vigor.
