In honor of Principal Dancer Maria Kowroski’s farewell performances in Fall 2021 following a 26-year career with New York City Ballet, choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti, who included Maria in all four of his prior creations for NYCB, crafted a contemporary pas de deux to mark the occasion.
AMARIA is choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti’s fifth work for NYCB. Set to Sonata in A Major, K. 208 and Sonata in D Minor, K. 32 by Domenico Scarlatti, the pas de deux was created for former Principal Dancer Maria Kowroski’s final season with the Company. Kowroski originated principal roles in all of Bigonzetti’s ballets for NYCB: Vespro (2002), In Vento (2006), Oltremare (2008), and Luce Nascosta (2010).
