Returning with her second offering for NYCB, Gianna Reisen employs dissonant music for violin and piano to illuminate themes of both community and independence, her choreography highlighted by gestural movements, geometric patterns, and romantic costumes from fashion designer Alberta Ferretti that evoke flowers, waves, and Grecian goddesses.

Judah is Gianna Reisen’s second work for New York City Ballet, following Composer’s Holiday (2017). Reisen, a dancer with L.A. Dance Project and a graduate of the School of American Ballet, created Judah for the Company’s 2018 Fall Gala. The ballet for 18 dancers is set to excerpts from John Adams’ 1994 composition John’s Book of Alleged Dances and features costumes by Italian fashion designer Alberta Ferretti and lighting by NYCB Resident Lighting Director Mark Stanley.
