Edwaard Liang’s ballet for 16 dancers, set to the vibrant Apollo by English composer Oliver Davis, abstracts and deconstructs Georgian folk dance with choreographic patterning that parallels Anna Sui’s rich costume designs.
Edwaard Liang’s first work for New York City Ballet, Lineage, premiered at the Company’s 2019 Fall Gala. The artistic director of BalletMet and a former NYCB Soloist, Liang has set his ballet for 16 dancers to a new score by Oliver Davis, Apollo. Lineage features costumes by fashion designer Anna Sui and lighting by NYCB Resident Lighting Director Mark Stanley.
