Three women and a man dressed in sleek black costumes move through the subdued, moody atmosphere of Peter Martins’ Mes Oiseaux (My Birds), performing intricate partnering and choreography evoking the shapes of exotic birds.
Peter Martins’ Mes Oiseaux (My Birds) was created for NYCB’s 2012 Spring Gala, a special salute to France, titled Á La Française. The score for the ballet is Trio No. 1 by the contemporary French composer Marc-André Dalbavie, and was composed in 2009 for violin, cello, and piano. The costumes for Mes Oiseaux were created by French fashion designer Gilles Mendel.
