The subject matter of the 2014 feature-length documentary Ballet 422, Justin Peck’s Paz de la Jolla evokes the buoyant and beachy feeling of his home state, California.
NYCB Resident Choreographer and Artistic Advisor Justin Peck made Paz de la Jolla, his third work for the Company, in 2013. Set to Bohuslav Martinů’s Sinfonietta la Jolla, the ballet is inspired by Peck’s upbringing in Southern California. The cast of 18 dancers is costumed by Reid Bartelme and Harriet Jung and the ballet features lighting by Mark Stanley. The creation of Paz de la Jolla was captured in the acclaimed documentary film Ballet 422.
