An animated ballet set to a vivacious score, Soirée Musicale’s youthful cast entices you to dance the night away under a blanket of stars.
Set to Samuel Barber’s Souvenirs, Soirée Musicale was originally created for the School of American Ballet Workshop performance in 1998. In 2013, Wheeldon revived the work, with some slight additions and revisions, and the ballet had its New York City Ballet premiere at the Company’s Spring Gala performance as part of a three-week American Music Festival. The reworked ballet features a cast of 17 dancers, newly designed costumes by Holly Hynes, and lighting by Penny Jacobus.
