Set to an impassioned score for string quartet, Matthew Neenan’s first work for NYCB crafts a world of abstract beauty, enhanced by striking scarlet and black costumes from Gareth Pugh that help develop a narrative of connection and antagonism as tribe-like groupings parry back and forth.
The Exchange is Matthew Neenan’s first work for New York City Ballet. The ballet for 16 dancers premiered at the Company’s 2018 Fall Gala, and features lighting by Mark Stanley, costumes by British fashion designer Gareth Pugh, and music by Antonín Dvořák.
