Exploring themes of isolation, identity, and self-discovery, Lauren Lovette’s The Shaded Line is an atmospheric journey across five movements, featuring a layered score from Tan Dun and Zac Posen’s elegantly radical take on traditional ballet costuming.
The Shaded Line is Lauren Lovette’s third work for New York City Ballet. Lovette, a principal dancer with NYCB, created the ballet for NYCB’s 2019 Fall Gala. The ballet for 24 dancers is set to Tan Dun’s Fire Ritual and features costumes by fashion designer Zac Posen and lighting by NYCB Resident Lighting Director Mark Stanley.
