Them Twos represents the second collaboration between Peter Martins and Wynton Marsalis, following their 1993 work, Jazz (Six Syncopated Movements). Them Twos, a sophisticated neoclassical ballet about the uneven course of love, opens with a non-danced overture ("Forever"). This is followed by a series of duets for five couples, with each section named after the music ("First Love," "Almost," "Horror," "Sex," "Loss") that ranges from tender and lyrical to passionate and sensual, culminating in a pas de deux of tantalizing mystery. Mr. Marsalis' music for Them Twos is his first work for a full orchestra.
