Thou Swell embodies all the glamour of early-20th-century café society with its glittering décor, sumptuous fashion, and romantic Rodgers songs.
Four elegant couples dance the night away in an art deco ballroom in Peter Martins’ tribute to composer Richard Rodgers. Created in honor of the 100th anniversary of Rodgers’ birth, Thou Swell was first danced in a preview gala performance in 2002 that also included Christopher Wheeldon’s Carousel (A Dance). For NYCB’s 2015 Fall Fashion Gala, Peter Copping of Oscar de la Renta created new costume designs for the ballet.
