The Nutcracker Project

Grades: 3 – 4
Cost: $350 per class
Dates: October - December
Includes: Five In-School Workshops, One Professional Development Session, NYCB Student Matinee Performance

The Nutcracker Project is designed to promote individual and group artistic expression inspired by the choreography, music, and aesthetics found in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™. NYCB Teaching Artists and classroom teachers engage students in interdisciplinary workshops and lessons, and all participants attend a live performance of The Nutcracker at Lincoln Center.  The newly-revised curriculum focuses on active art-making, collaboration, and critical reflection. The students' works of art are collected into an anthology and distributed to all school participants.

My students loved the residency. The creativity and 'thinking outside of the box' that the project allowed really energized my class! - 4th grade teacher, PS 16Q

The Nutcracker Project has given me the opportunity to work with a beautifully diverse range of students from every borough of the city. What continues to amaze me is how universal the themes of ballet are and how readily they inspire students to create their own dances, artwork, and poems. - NYCB Teaching Artist
