Fall Gala

Celebrating Valentino

Thursday, September 20, 2012

New York City Ballet celebrated the launch of the 2012-2013 season with a special one-time-only Gala performance featuring a world premiere ballet, a New York City premiere ballet, rarely seen works from the repertory, and new costumes created by legendary fashion designer Valentino Garavani for an extraordinary evening of dance and celebration. Prior to the performance, guests mixed and mingled at an elegant cocktail reception. Once the performance concluded, the evening continued with a black tie Supper Ball for over 1,000 guests and dancing with New York City Ballet Company members until midnight.

The program for the Fall Gala was as follows:

Sophisticated Lady  (Ellington/Martins)
Not My Girl (Fred Astaire, Van Phillips/Martins)
New Wheeldon Pas de Deux (Dinah Washington, Max Richter/Wheeldon)  [NY Preview]
Rubies  (Stravinsky/Balanchine)
New Martins (Tschaikovsky/Martins)  [World Premiere]

All of the ballets except Rubies featured costumes by Valentino.
