Aurora's Wedding

Choreography by: Peter Martins (after Marius Petipa)

Music by: Peter Ilyitch Tschaikovsky

The final act from Peter Martins’ full-length The Sleeping Beauty presents the festivities of Princess Aurora’s wedding to Prince Désiré, including dances by their fairytale guests and the joyous couple’s climactic pas de deux.

In 1991, NYCB premiered Peter Martins’ full-length version of The Sleeping Beauty, a ballet that NYCB co-founder Lincoln Kirstein had always hoped would join the Company's repertory. This 19th-century story ballet, based on the original choreography of Marius Petipa, is one of the few full-length ballets in the NYCB repertory. Aurora’s Wedding, from the spectacular final act, was first performed separately in the spring of 1999.
