COMPANY CLASSICS BOOKEND AN NYCB PREMIERE AND POIGNANT CONTEMPORARY FAVORITE
This quartet of dances demonstrates a wide variety of repertory. Making its debut with the Company is a work from choreographer Lar Lubovitch, set to Brahms piano compositions, commissioned by New York City Center and created in 2021 on two of NYCB’s principal dancers. Representing tradition are works from the founding choreographers: Balanchine’s evocative Divertimento from ‘Le Baiser de la Fée,’ which never fails to wrap audiences in its air of mystery, while Robbins’ The Four Seasons moves through the cycles of the title, illuminating each with contrasting classical dances. The program is completed by Christopher Wheeldon’s seductive This Bitter Earth, a pas de deux set to a remixed recording of the title song by Dinah Washington.

-
Each In Their Own Time
Originally choreographed on NYCB artists for New York City Center’s 2021 Fall for Dance Festival, Lar Lubovitch’s Each In Their Own Time flows through an intricate array of jumps, turns, and radiant yet introspective moments between two dancers and an onstage pianist.

This Bitter Earth
This breathtaking and poetic dance for a man and woman explores the haunting, tenuous melodies of Dinah Washington’s soulful rendition of “This Bitter Earth” as remixed by British composer Max Richter.
-
